Agriculture is the backbone of the Malawian economy. About 80% of the population of Malawi depends on farming for their livelihood. In Dzuwa village, more than 95% are subsistence farmers. JTW is committed to working with the people of Dzuwa village to maximize their productivity and grow the economy.
JTW has moved ahead with plans to:
- Establish cooperatives for the local farmers in Dzuwa village
- Set up demonstration gardens and provide training to farmers in irrigation farming and modern farming techniques
- Cultivate 6 acres of land to grow cassava, which will provide a reliable food source for the people of Dzuwa and a source of income when sold at the local market
- Provide loans for seed & fertilizer, as well as for farming equipment.
